Affordable transit for over 25K Edmontonians could be on the chopping block.

We think it's unfair that the provincial government could be cutting critical transit support for low-income families during an affordability crisis.

Fair fares: Don’t cut low-income transit!

Did you know that while City Council chose to keep transit fares low, and continue to fund low-income transit options, the provincial government is considering skipping out on their share of the funding?

Without public pressure, the province will continue to neglect affordable transit, forcing low-income riders to pay more or lose access entirely. The City of Edmonton has always paid its share of affordable transit programs.

We need the provincial government to keep their promise and fund their portion. Transit isn’t a luxury; it is a lifeline for families, workers, seniors and students. The provincial government is putting that at risk.

Affordable transit helps our economy run, yet the Province doesn’t see the value. When transit goes underfunded, it creates unnecessary barriers for those who rely on it most. For every dollar the Province withholds, working families are picking up the tab.

Keeping services affordable is what Edmontonians need, let’s get the province on board.

Without public pressure, the province will continue to skip out on their share, costing you more.

Dear Premier Smith and Minister Nixon,

Over 25,000 Edmontonians rely on the low-income transit pass program to get to jobs, school, healthcare, and to get around our city. This program is critical for people hit hardest by the affordability crisis. Edmontonians already spoke out once and you listened by funding this program through June 2025. Now, we need this funding to be permanent more than ever.

Discontinuing funding for this essential program would hit the most vulnerable Edmontonians the hardest. It would also hurt our local economy when workers and customers can no longer use public transit to access our local businesses.

At a time when many are struggling to afford basic needs and the demand for this program is only increasing, I am asking that you provide $10.8 million in permanent funding for the low-income transit pass program in Edmonton.

Sincerely,

Your Name
